The Ambassador of Angola in Italy and Permanent Representative, H.E. Mrs. Maria de Fátima Jardim, had a working meeting on February 11, 2022, with her counterpart from the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Guang Defu.
The multilateral meeting served to address, in particular, the issue of the African Solidarity Trust Fund, currently chaired by the Republic of Angola, and the importance of contributions.
The Africa Solidarity Trust Fund (ASTF) was launched in 2013, with major contributions from Angola and Equatorial Guinea, to support strategic initiatives, focused on fighting hunger and malnutrition, strengthening value chains to improve the livelihoods of rural and urban populations, and building the resilience of vulnerable communities and production systems across Africa.
Has to be noted that the two Countries also renewed their interest in continuing to cooperate in multilateral diplomacy, which today represents the major collaborative tool to address global challenges such as food insecurity, hunger, and climate change.
The need for new approaches to climate change, new global strategies for oceans and forests, the role of FAO, the African Union and other International Organizations were also discussed.
At the end of the meeting the Representative from Angola expressed her gratitude to the Permanent Representative of China and recalled the deep friendship relations that characterize the two Peoples and Countries.
