Paris, October 5, 2024.
Angola was today officially admitted as an observer member of the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF).
The decision was announced during the OIF Summit, which takes place in Paris, at the Grand Palais, and was attended by leaders and delegations from French-speaking countries from around the world.
This important milestone reaffirms Angola’s commitment to the principles of Francophonie and multilateral cooperation.
Angola’s acceptance as an observer member was the result of a closed-door session, where OIF member countries debated applications for new members and status changes.
A total of 9 (nine) status changes or applications were requested, with Ghana and Cyprus being approved as full members and observer members, in addition to Angola, Chile, Nova Scotia in Canada, New Caledonia and the State of Saarland in Germany.
Serbia and Kosovo saw their candidacies rejected as full members.
With this new status, Angola strengthens its presence on the international scene, promoting cultural, linguistic and economic exchanges with the French-speaking world.
