The Ambassador of Angola in Italy and Representative to FAO, IFAD and WFP met with her counterpart from Lesotho, who had become the Coordinator of the Southern Africa Sub-Region, position that has been occupied by Angola for the past two years.
The meeting offered an occasion to exchange views on bilateral cooperation in the Sub-region, on the need to turn food-systems resilient and strengthen cooperation, institutional collaboration and trade between countries of this important African Region.
Was also noted the interest of Lesotho in collaborating on agricultural adaptation and inclusion in productive and rural areas.
In addition to the impact of covid, was highlited the impact of HIV and the importance of an integrative health vision, made of both prevention and nutrition.
Was also addressed: the importance of new approaches linked to human development in rural areas, the crimes committed against women, young girls and children theft, which aggravate the poverty, and complex social problems and protection of these groups of people in the country.
Furthermore, were discussed bilateral issues and was expressed the interest in partnerships in all areas, especially in agriculture, ecotourism, education and health.
At the end of the meeting Angola was prepared to support the new Coordinator in strengthening the strategies and challenges in progress, such as the restructuring of FAO, the economic recovery and the social sustainability.
