Goodbye 🇭🇺 Hungary and hello 🇵🇱 Poland!

With the New Year 🗓️ comes a new presidency of the Council of the European Union! 🇪🇺

Starting 1 January, Poland has taken over the EU presidency for the coming six months, meaning it’s in charge of chairing meetings of the Council of the EU and ensuring continuity of its works.

The Council of the European Union is one of the EU’s decision-making institutions. It is made up of representatives of the governments of the member states, usually ministers. It meets in 10 different configurations, so that the topic of the meeting is covered by ministers with the relevant portfolio.

The Council negotiates and adopts laws together with the European Parliament. The presidency of the Council rotates among EU countries every six months. During this six-month period, the presidency chairs meetings at every level in the Council.
